Cylinder Head Bolt Installation
Factory Method

For each cylinder head, start with head bolt numbered one. In increasing number sequence (1-2-3-4), tighten the head bolt in three stages.

1. Tighten each bolt to 7-9 foot pounds of torque.

2, Tighten each bolt to 12-14 foot pounds of torque.

3. Mark each head bolt and head with aligning marks. Tighten each bolt 1/4 turn (90 degrees).

1. Tighten each bolt to 7-9 foot pounds of torque.

2. Tighten each bolt to 12-15 foot pounds of torque.

3, Tighten each bolt to 22-25 foot pounds of torque.

4, Tighten each bolt to 38-42 foot pounds of torque.

The rocker housing bolts have 14 foot pounds of torque and the rocker cover bolts have 18 foot pounds of torque. The rocker arm support plate bolts have 22 foot pounds of torque. The cam cover bolts have 2.5 foot pounds of torque and the lifter cover bolts have 10 foot lbs of torque. The Stator Torx T27 has 6.25 foot lbs of torque.

The Road King's twin cam is a 96 degree pushrod-operated type engine. It uses an overhead valve configuration (OHV). The engine's camshaft uses self-adjusted hydraulic lifters. It has a displacement of 96.7 cubic inches, or 1.5 liters, and has a bore/stroke of 3.75/4.37 inches. The engine uses a sequential electronic fuel injection system (SEFI). The engine uses an air cooling system and has a compression ratio of 9.2 to 1.
